OUVALA

The company

Built here, for yards here.

Very good trackers already exist. They are designed in Australia, sold in English, invoiced in US dollars, and nobody on the phone knows what a snow blower is.

Why

Construction equipment theft has nearly doubled in Canada in a single year. The most common response has not changed in twenty years: a chain, a padlock, and hope.

Trackers do exist. The problem is not the technology — it is that almost everything sold here is designed for a truck: it plugs into the OBD port, it lives off the alternator, it assumes an engine. But what gets stolen off a yard is the things with no engine. A trailer. A generator. A compressor.

An unpowered object imposes constraints few manufacturers accept: the battery has to last years, and it has to deliver a current pulse at −30 °C — precisely the moment lithium-thionyl chemistry behaves at its worst. That is a hardware problem, not a software one, and it is where the difference lies between a device that works in February and a device that works in June.

OUVALA starts there. The hardware is chosen for winter, not adapted to it afterwards. The platform is written in French first. And the data stays in Canada, because an employee’s position is personal information under Law 25 — not a compliance detail to settle later.
